These past few days have been crazy! I had my first few days of training for my job at the Seas in Epcot! 🙂 I really could not have asked for a better place to work in. The people are awesome and so much fun to be around. Also, it’s such a fun attraction! There’s the ride and then Turtle Talk with Crush! 😀 I’ve been learning all the positions and going through lots of paperwork. I trained for 8 hours every day the past three days and it’s been exhausting. Standing on your feet for 8 hours is hard but hopefully it will get easier.
I’ve been pretty good about keeping up with my running and lifting. I did a legs day yesterday and today I had all the DOMS! I went for a short and fast run to shake things out and it felt really good. My knee has gotten a lot better which makes me happy because I can work on my speed now. 🙂 I really want to find a few 5ks to sign up for around here. It would be cool if I could PR my 5k this summer. 🙂 My schedule isn’t too bad and my shifts aren’t normally too early so I think I could train for a large race! Once I sign up for my next marathon, I’ll be sure to let you guys know. 🙂 As for now, I’m exhausted and have been falling asleep while typing this. Goodnight!
Well, this is it! 😀 I’m officially a cast member of Walt Disney World! Yesterday, I completed Traditions which was basically an intro class for all workers at Disney. It was actually pretty fun! We learned a lot of history about the company and about the values. I made some new friends, laughed a lot and met my boss aka the one and only Mickey! 😉 After traditions, I got a quick workout in. My runner’s knee has been a little fussy so I did some lifting and elliptical work. Blegh. After that, my roommates and some other friends and I went to Magic Kingdom! 😀
We got there just as “Dream Along with Mickey” started and got to watch it. It’s my favorite show and I may or may not have teared up a little. No judgement! 😉 Since it was a little later and the park was packed, we only went on a couple rides but we did meet Buzz Lightyear.
It was a pretty great time. 🙂 We came back to the apartment totally exhausted. It was a long day!
Today was my day off. A lot of my friends started training but I start my training tomorrow. I woke up around 8:30 and laced up for a run. I did 4 miles that were painless which made me super happy. 🙂 However, the ordeal with my car afterwards was not fun. It’s a really long story but basically, it should really not be so difficult to get a freakin’ parking pass for your apartment complex. Anyways, things got immediately better because my roommates and I went to Epcot! 😀
We met Mary Poppins, ate sorbet in Italy and met Aladdin and Jasmine! 🙂 I fangirled a lot. We also went on Test Track, Soarin’, Imagination and Spaceship Earth. The lines were a little crazy but it wasn’t unbearable. My feet did hurt a lot though. I forgot how much walking in the parks can really tax your body. I’m currently beat after about 6 hours in Epcot. Tomorrow, I start at 8 AM and then hopefully I’m going to a waterpark to relax afterwards. 🙂 Stay tuned for more on my journey with the DCP and I hope you all have a magical weekend! 😀
Wow, I have not updated in a few days! Truth is, a lot has happened. I made the move down to Florida! I’m officially a Floridian! 🙂 It all began this past Saturday. We got up early, packed up the car (thankfully everything fit my tiny focus!) and started the trek down. My parents were driving so Kelsey and I passed out most of the way. We stopped in Kentucky at a skyline chili which was absolutely fabulous. Why don’t we have nice things in Michigan? 😛 Anyways, the drive was pretty boring and eventually we stopped in Georgia. Oof.. what a long state. Kelsey and I took advantage of the free wifi in our hotel room to watch the season finale of Doctor Who. I cried..a lot. It was so good though! Anyone else watch it? Thoughts? Theories?
After collecting ourselves, we hit up Chick-fil-a for dinner which was delicious of course. I’m just gonna say right now that eating healthy was really hard during this trip but I think I made good choices while still enjoying myself. The next day, we checked out and drove through Georgia. My, oh my what a boring state. We finally got to our hotel in Orlando around 5 and got everything sorted there. Then we decided to go to Downtown Disney to meet up with some more people from the college program! 😀
Not the best quality pictures but honestly, it was one of the best nights I’ve had in a long time. ❤ The next day was rough but I woke up early to get in a quick workout. I did some cycling for a half an hour. I’ve been basically trying to rest my knee so I’ve been doing low impact exercises and lots of calisthenics. You do what you gotta do! 🙂 After a quick shower, we were out the door. We were at check-in for the DCP by 7 AM. It was such a fun process though. We got our rooming assignments, our IDs, keys, etc and then we were bussed to the casting center to be hired. It was a lot of paperwork and we were done by around 10 AM but it felt like we’d been there for days. My roommates are thankfully the girls I had signed up to room with and we got the apartment we wanted. After everything was settled, we started moving stuff into our apartment. I spent the rest of my afternoon unpacking and figuring out the apartment complex. It’s absolutely huge! We also visited Publix and Walmart to get some necessities. After everyone was moved in, we went out to dinner at Joe’s Crab Shack. Thankfully, this is the last dinner out we’ll be having for awhile. It was a lot of fun but I am totally done with restaurants. After two days of eating out on the road, I’m ready for a simple sandwich and some fresh fruits and veggies.
This morning, I met up with a guy named Caleb for a run. He’s a cross/track collegiate athlete so I figured it would be interesting. My knee felt pretty good for the 3 miles we ran and then we walked a mile back! Then I drove my parents to the airport, came back and relaxed by the pool. We also hit up Publix again today for some much needed groceries. I finally have oatmeal and bananas and other yummy foods! 🙂 It was so nice to have a simple PB&J sandwich for lunch today. It’s been a good and relaxing day. I need to enjoy them before I get my work schedule and everything goes crazy. Now that I have internet, I’ll be able to blog more. 🙂 Hope everyone is doing well!
Hey everyone! I was so tired last night that I basically knocked out without posting anything. I had a bit of an emotional start to my Tuesday. I went out for a short run in the morning and about half-way through, my right knee and shin hurt so badly that I had to hobble home. I knew I was having trouble with shin splints on my right leg but I was really hoping that I wouldn’t have a knee problem again. I iced it and tried to calm myself down. Eventually I got ready since I knew my friend Brandon was driving two hours to come see me. Things got so much better from there. We had a delicious arabic breakfast of knafeh.
Then we went to Greenfield Village which is probably my favorite place of all time. Here are some favorite moments:
Then we decided to randomly drive to Canada since the border is so close. 🙂 We went to a place called Loose Goose for dinner.
I had a fabulous burger with some sweet potato fries. We walked around a bit by the water and explored a bit more of Windsor. It’s a really cool place and has a lot more things to do than Detroit has. 🙂 We called it a day at about 7 PM and got a little lost finding the tunnel back. My only complaint about Canada is that their signs SUCK. Seriously, they’re no help and almost none of their highways have clear markers. We finally got back and then it was time for Brandon to leave. It was such a great day and I’m so glad I got to see him before I leave for Disney. By the way, I leave in..THREE DAYS. :O Today, I’m going to get things sorted.. I promise..and I get to see Claire which I’m actually more excited about than packing. 😛

Hey howdy hello! 🙂 How was everyone’s mothers day weekend? My Sunday started off pretty early. I woke up around 7:30 and drove to my favorite road to do an easy 7 miles. I thought it was going to be warm but when I woke up, the weather said it was going to be 38 degrees! 😦 I had to pull out all of my underarmour layers again. I didn’t wear gloves which I quickly regretted but at least my hands warmed up slightly. Other than it being ridiculously cold and windy, the run went pretty well. I was surprised that not many people were out on that road since I usually see at least 5 or 6 other runners and a lot of cyclists. It made for a lonely run but at least I got out there! 🙂 I finished up, stretched and then went to Kroger to grab my mom a gift and a card. Probably shouldn’t have procrastinated but at least there were a lot of other people there that were in the same boat. 😉 I got home, showered, gave my mom her gift and then we went out to brunch at Andiamo’s. Brunch is pretty much my favorite meal but Andiamo’s always has an interesting twist on their brunch buffet. Not only do they have french toast, blintzes and omelets, they also serve turkey, chicken, ribs, fish, hummus and lots of pastries. I was in foodie heaven!

The big move to Florida is happening in exactly one week! Eep! I feel like there is so much to do but I have no idea where to start. Yesterday, I realized that I definitely needed some new clothes. I haven’t really bought “summery” clothes since high school. I have a few dresses that are new but a lot of my summer clothes scream high school tween. Definitely needed an update to my wardrobe. My mom took me to the mall to look around but we quickly realized that we butted heads a lot about fashion and what is appropriate. It was somewhat of a fiasco. I’d pick out something and she’d have a billion oppositions to it. She’d pick something and I’d find it too boring. We settled on these two dresses:
I loved these two dresses. They were light and perfect for a hot free day in the parks. 🙂 There were some other things I wanted to try on but I wasn’t going to risk more arguments. Sometimes you just need to shop for yourself with a trusted friend. 😉 I drove over to Troy yesterday to spend the night with my BFF Kirsten who is leaving for her internship in Utah next week. We decided to hit the mall early this morning to see if we could find some nice summery clothes. She’ll be joining me at Disney in August. 🙂 Phew! It was much less stressful shopping with her.

Also, congratulations to everyone who ran the Grand Rapids River Run and the Color Run today! 😀 I ran both last year (they weren’t on the same day) and they were fantastic! Grand Rapids definitely had the best aid stations out of any race I’ve ever done.
*sigh* memories.. 🙂 this was from the 2012 25k. 🙂 i have a few ideas for my next marathon but i’m not letting out any details until i register. patience young grasshoppers. 😉

Hi there! My name is Sarah. I’m a 21 year old college student following my dream of becoming a music educator. I’m currently studying at Central Michigan University and hope to graduate within the next two years. This year, I’m taking a semester off to do the Disney College Program. My program starts May 20th and lasts until next January! 😀 I’m super excited to see where things go within the next few years. I created this blog in order to document my journey in a more organized manner.
Some things about me: I’m super bubbly and outgoing and love making friends. If you’re extremely introverted, I might make you uncomfortable but I’m harmless, I swear. 😉 I play the flute and have been since 4th grade. Music is still one of my biggest passions and I can’t wait to share it with kids. I’m also an avid runner. I’ve been running for 3 years and have just completed my third marathon. I love this sport with all of my heart and will probably blog about my running experiences most. Along with being a runner, I’m a fearless eater and chef. I love trying and experimenting with new foods. If one of my recipes is a big winner, you’ll definitely find it on this blog. I don’t follow any particular diet (for reasons I’ll talk about later) so you’ll see a bit of everything. I do try to eat a lot of whole and nutritious foods while also enjoying lots of delicious treats. I also like to lift heavy weights, swim, bike and practice yoga occasionally. My goals aren’t really weight-related but I do know that I just want to run some killer marathon times, finish an ultramarathon and do an ironman. 🙂
As mentioned before, I don’t follow any particular diet because of my prior struggles with anorexia. I was a prisoner of my eating disorder for 3 years and started the journey to self-love and recovery last year. It’s been a long and very difficult journey but I can proudly say that I am in a much better place now. I don’t think I could’ve fully recovered if I went on a crazy clean-eating kick or tried vegetarianism, veganism, paleo, etc. I’ve learned to have a normal and healthy relationship with all foods. Yeah, I’ve gained about 20 lbs but the mental gains have been completely worth it. 🙂 On this blog, you’ll constantly find inspiration to love yourself as is. I am firmly against promoting weight-loss as a way to have a better life. I believe in Health At Every Size as well as self-love at every size. My sass will probably to a few blog posts calling out many diet programs on their BS. I hope that my lifestyle will lead some readers to ditch the diets and love themselves.
Other than that, I love to read and listen to music. I also love to travel and learn languages. I currently can speak Arabic, German and English and hope to improve my French and learn Italian in the near future. I also love history and culture. I’m a huge nerd who watches Doctor Who, Sherlock and Supernatural religiously as well as anything Disney. I have a strong faith in God and hope to just love on as many people as possible. As much as I’m a huge talker, I also love to listen. Ultimately, I just hope that my journey can help others get to a better place.
